Just when I thought that Bush couldn't possibly be any stupider, I'm reading about how Bush, the War President and Defender against Terrorism, overrode his own weapons security experts at the behest of the Republican Congress and posted highly classified, detailed technical tips for making a fission bomb on the Internet.

I wonder how those Republican pundits are going to explain how "accidentally posting the plans for a nuke in Arabic on the Web is no big deal".

Reuters -- The Bush administration closed a government Web site set up to publicly display pre-war Iraqi documents on weapons of mass destruction after experts said its content included details for building a nuclear bomb, officials said on Friday.

The unclassified site was established by U.S. intelligence chief John Negroponte in March under pressure from Republicans, who believed the captured documents would illustrate the dangers of Saddam Hussein during an election year marked by increasing voter disaffection over the Iraq war.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Here's a summary of some of what is being reported:

    - In the aftermath of the Iraq invasion, facing the embarrassment of no WMDs found, the White House found themselves in possesion of thousands of pages of Iraqi documents pertaining to obsolete WMD programs from before the first Gulf War.

    - To provide fodder for out of context quoting and neocon fear mongering, to save time and money on translating, and to retain a few votes, the Republican Congress with the cooperation of President Bush wanted to post the raw docs on the Internet and invite right-wing bloggers and web surfers to pitch in and read through it all to find any quotable gems.

    - John Negroponte opposed this incredibly asinine idea knowing full well that the data had not been read and vetted.

    - But then, Bush the Decider, decided to over ride expert advice and do it anyway.

    - Buried in the stacks of dull inventories and mundane trivial minutia were the plans for how to fabricate and assemble the critical components of a working fission bomb - in Arabic - no need for Al Qaeda to worry about translating.

Another thing is that Condeleeza Rice (And others) has been touting the documents as proof that Saddam was working on a nuclear program. What she fails to mention is that the documents themselves are from before the 1st Gulf War.

How dumb do they think people are?

    Good grief. More bad news:

Nuclear Lab Breach Could Be 'Devastating'
CBS News Exclusive: Data Found In Drug Raid Contains Weapons-Design Secrets

Multiple sources now tell CBS News that the material includes sensitive weapons-design data.

A federal official who has been briefed on the issue said at least three USB thumb-drives were involved. Those small storage drives contained 408 separate classified documents ranging in importance from Secret National Security Information (pertaining to intelligence) to Secret Restricted Data (pertaining to nuclear weapons).

All of the information came from the classified document video media vault inside the Lab. Federal officials also found 228 pages ? printed front and back ? of classified documents in the drug trailer during their investigation.
